Breathwork has been used in ancient Chinese, Indian, and Japanese traditions for thousands of years dating back to Pranayamas (controlling the breath) in Yogic practices and a variety of breath-centered meditations in Buddhism, Taoism, Sufism, Christianity, Shamanism, and martial arts.
There are many types of breathwork much like types of fitness; it all depends on what you want to achieve.
I teach two types of Breathwork: Functional and Integrative
Functional Breathwork, or everyday breathing, affects how we feel at rest, during activity, and sleep. I work with clients to identify dysfunctional biochemical, biomechanical, and psychophysiological breathing habits. I utilize tools to gain insight into proper breathing, measure total lung volume, and BOLT score, and use a Capnometer to measure end-tidal CO2, HRV, breathing rate, and breath volume. I am certified as a Functional and Advanced Breathing Instructor by the Oxygen Advantage and apply OA techniques and exercises. To properly track progress, three sessions are recommended.
Integrative Breathwork or Transformational Breathwork is a type of circular breathing which is simple, yet effective as it triggers a deep, transformational, and life-changing experience. Of all the styles of breathwork, CCB opens up our body and our subconscious minds so we can let go of old stories, release stress, anxiety, and tension hidden in the nervous system, and process unexpressed emotions that have been keeping us in the same patterns. After one 90-minute session, you will feel lighter, more grounded, and have a renewed outlook on life.
